Last year, 2007, we celebrated the centenary of south Tipperary GAA. Next year, 2009, we will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the GAA in Hayes Hotel, Thurles in 1884.
Last year, a detailed history of the GAA and its clubs in south Tipperary for 1907 – 2007 was published. The book which contains nearly 800 pages is an absolute mine of information about south Tipperary and its clubs.
The author Michael O Meara was secretary of the south board for three decades and is now its honorary President. If anybody was qualified to write such a history, it was surely Michael. The book which is no both hardback and soft cover is available for as little as €30.
It would make an ideal Christmas present for any person who is interested in the GAA in Mullinahone or in south Tipperary. The history contains an excellent records section which should put an end to much of the bluffing which passes for fact in many GAA discussions.
For a worthwhile and informative Christmas or New Years present how about Michael O Meara’s “South Tipperary GAA 1907 – 2007” in any good bookshop.
