Eoin Is Honoured
Recently retired Tipperary hurler, Eoin Kelly was accorded a civic reception by the members of the Carrick-on-Suir Municipal district of Tipperary Co. Council. The reception was held in Mullinahone and was chaired by Eddie O’Meara, M.C.C. Ballydonnell, a neighbour of the Kelly family and current Chairman of the Carrick-on-Suir Municipal area. his reception was only the second ever to be held outside the county buildings and was the first ever accorded by the Carrick-on-Suir Municipal area.
The size of the attendance which flocked to the Mullinahone C.J.Kickhams GAA Centre and the content of the many speeches made at the reception attested to the huge esteem in which hurling legend, Eoin Kelly is held both inside and outside Tipperary. A very nice touch was lent to the proceedings when a copy of the poem “Tribute to Eoin Kelly” composed by local poet, Joe Tobin was left for every person who attended, as a souvenir of an historic occasion.
In the Tipperary Yearbook of 1991, in an article entitled “Four points short of senior status”, the following was written. “Our U12 side had one very bright prospect. He will still be eligible for minor in the year 2000”. It was a pointer to what was to come. The following year 1991, Eoin won his first Tipperary medal when he captained the U10 Mullinahone team which won the County Community Games football title and reached the Munster Final. Starting in 1997, at the age of 15, Eoin has won 10 South Tipp. senior hurling medals.
Another win would give him 11medals which is the South Tipp record currently held in Carrick-on-Suir In a fine acceptance speech, Eoin thanked his own family and the large crowd who had turned out to support him and the Council who accorded him the honour of a civic reception. Eoins wife, Sarah, was presented with a bouquet of flowers. Eddie O’Meara MCC was an excellent host of the reception and master of ceremonies. All who attended were then provided with refreshments and the curtain came down on yet another great Mullinahone night.

Local GAA Club has been rather lucky in some recent Tipperary GAA draws. Biggest winner was Breda Ryan of Kyleaduhir who won a car in the last monthly draw. Congratulations to Breda and also to Tommy O’Sullivan who won a promoters prize.
Local Lotto Jackpot
The last local lotto jackpot draw took place on Monday March 16th. The numbers drawn were 2,10,11 and 26. We didn’t have a jackpot winner, but 3 winners shared the Match 3 prize of €150. Congrats to Aidan McGrath, Nicola McInerney and Maura + Áine. Next draw will take place on March 30th when the jackpot could be worth €10,900. Now wouldn’t that be a lovely Easter Egg. A Good Win
Our senior hurlers were in action on Sunday morning last in the local sports field. After an exciting game, they came from behind to send the game to extra time against Moneygall. The score after 60 minutes was Moneygall 3-10, C.J. Kickhams 1-16. We got on top in extra time and ran out 2-23 to 3-13 winners over the Obamamen. It was a lovely morning and our pitch was in good condition. What a pity more supporters weren’t present to see an improved display. We have now qualified for the semi-final of the Dr. Fogarty Cup.

“March Many Weathers”
The current month seems to be living up to its nickname of “March Many Weathers”, but the month gone by, February hardly did so. It’s nickname is “February Fill Dyke” but only 46.6mm of rain fell locally during the month on 14 days, hardly enough to fill the dykes of the parish. It pales when compared to the February 2014 figure of 153.2mm on 25 days. It was a lesser figure than that of 2013, but was greater than the 24.2mm of rain on 15 days which fell in 2012. Overall it seems, that the weather in February varies greatly from year to year.
Membership Being Updated
The membership committee of C.J.Kickhams GAA Club is busy gathering up club membership for the coming year. Membership for the year costs €20 and is due by the end of the month. Membership of ordinary members will be ratified at a club meeting following the closing date. Players membership will be handled by Membership Officer, Rita Curran. Membership cards are available in three local shops – Hickeys, O’Brien Butchers and Paul Meehans. It is hoped that membership in 2015 will be as good as, or even better than 2014.
Credit Unions to Link Up
At the last AGM of Mullinahone Credit Union, it was stated that a link-up with Clonmel/Fethard was on the cards. Such a link up would mean that Mullinahone Credit Union would become part of a full time set-up and enjoy all the services that a full-time set-up would provide. In recent times, progress has been made with the plans for a link-up. Since Mullinahone Credit Union opened in 1978, services have always been provided by a volunteers. The amount of paper work now required by the Regulatory Authorities makes this almost impossible.

Last week we raised the question of how many under-age players have been given the opportunity of learning football and hurling skills in the club over the last 20 years. Going on the 2015 figures from U6’s to U16’s the answer could be about 1,800. On Sunday last there was great delight locallyto see a competitive hurling win over Kilkenny. A pity that our Paul Curran was injured in the game. We wish him a speedy recovery. Our senior hurlers play Moneygall in the Dr. Fogerty Tipperary Cup at 12 noon next Sunday.
Thursday 19th March at 8pm. Come along and keep up to date with community issues. All are welcome.

C.J. Kickhams GAA
Last week was a somewhat better one for C.J. Kickhams. On Wednesday night our hurlers surprised many when they had a narrow two points win in the St. Mollerans Tournament in Carrick-on-Suir. Their opponents were the Wexford club Rapparees. They were then to play host club St.Mollerans in the next round on last Saturday night, but this game was postponed. Instead, we played Barrow Rangers in a challenge game on Saturday afternoon. This we won. One of the most pleasing aspects of the week was the way our playing pitch dried up so quickly after the heavy rain of the previous weekend. Our club is currently, in conjunction with Tipperary County Board drawing up a three year plan for the future development of our club. Recently, the question was raised how many underage players has the club coached over the last two decades? With six grades from U6 to U16 the figure is far higher than most people would think
The last local lotto draw took place on Monday March 2nd. The numbers drawn were 1,4,12 and 28. There was no jackpot winner, but we had 5 Match 3 winners. Congrats to Conor and Denise, Eddie Brett, Jim Cahill, Doireann Walsh and Pauline Brett who shared €150. Next draw will be on Monday March 16th when the jackpot could be worth €10,750. Wouldn't St. Patrick be delighted to win it.

“Bionn Gach Tosnú Lag”
The old Irish phrase “Bionn gach tosnú lag” “Every beginning is weak” might apply to our senior hurlers. On Sunday morning they went down at home to Silvermines 4.08 to 1.09. Four goals shared among the “Mines” full forward line did the damage. Scores were level at half time 1-04 each. Early in the second half, we were hit for two goals and after hitting back with three points, our rally was undone by the concession of another goal. On a very bad day for hurling, on a very heavy pitch our lightweight side found the going hard, but should not be judged too harshly. We lined out Alan Walsh, Kevin Walzer, Gary Cronin, Chris Horan, Donal Cody, Eoin Fennelly, Luke Mullally, Cathal Horan, Diarmuid O’Halloran, Sean Curran, Alan Curran, Jack Shelly, Niall O’Brien, Graham Horan, Joe Hogan. We also introduced a number of subs late in the game of whom Enda Keane showed the most dash. We are next out in the Molleran’s Tournament during the week.
Our parish newsletter this week tells us that evil still exists in the world to-day, as it always has done since the time of Adam and Eve. This is the teaching of the new catechism.

The Months Mind Mass of Nellie Egan O’Meara, Kilvemnon will also take place on Saturday evening March 7th at 8pm. May they all rest in peace.
The Stations of the Cross and Benediction continue each Sunday evening at 7pm for the duration of Lent. Fr. Wilkinson of the Corboni Fathers sends grateful thanks for his reception in Mullinahone last week. €1,310 was donated at Masses towards the Orders Mission work.
