Boxing
Two boxers from the Slievenamon boxing club were in action recently in the Munster championships. Both Jack Shelly of Mullinahone and Brendan Gleeson both qualified for the finals.
Jack was first into the ring in the boy two 57kg final. He proved to be too strong and too fast for his opponent from the Bantry boxing club. The contest was stopped after a minute of the first round.
Brendan then faced up to his opponent from Waterford who was far more experienced. He fought gallantly for three rounds but lost out on a point’s decision. Well done to both Brendan and Jack.
Jack’s win was the first Munster title for the club. He now qualifies for the Irish finals in Dublin to be held from March 26th to 29th. Jack is reining Irish champion, having won the boy one 48kg title last year. We wish Jack the best of luck in Dublin.
