Credit Union Future

The future of Mullinahone Credit Union which opened in May 1978 is now secure. Mullinahone has always been to this day a credit union run  by volunteers. In recent years, the volume of administration has escalated hugely due to Government regulation. This made the task of volunteer credit unions virtually impossible.

However, due to the link up with Clonmel Credit Union, approved by the members at the last AGM, credit union will continue with an improved service as will be outlined to members shortly in a circular. While computer records will in future be linked to Clonmel, this will enable the bulk of the administration to be handled from there where staff will rely on the records much more so than were they in Mullinahone.

Senior Hurling

After a busy week both on and off the field, our senior hurlers still continue to prosper. Our offer to replay the Swan game on last Tuesday night was not accepted by them and the South Board awarded the game to us. This means that we will play Killenaule in the South Tipp winners semi-final with the winners going through to the South final and the losers playing off with the winners of the losers tie (Ballingarry or Swan) in a second semi-final.

All this supposes that there won’t be appeals. On Saturday night we came from nine  points down to defeat Ballygunner by a point 2-22 to 2-21 in Carrick in the St. Molleran’s tournament. On the administration front, we welcome the addition of Paul Curran to the Tipperary senior hurling backroom team and we congratulate Paul.

Presentations to Schools

The three primary schools in our parish were recently presented with gaelic gear by representatives of the Mullinahone club. The presentations were by way of a thank you to the teachers in Poulacapple N.S, Kilvemnon N.S. and Mullinahone N.S. who have supported our local GAA in recent years and in the past. Each school was also presented with a copy of the C.J.Kickham’s history “The Green above the Red” and also copies of some GAA ballads written by local poet, Joe Tobin.

On the playing field well done to Mullinahone N.S. who have qualified for a County U-11 final in Semple Stadium in mid June. Best wishes also to their U-13 team in their upcoming semi-final. Hard luck to our juvenile U-12 footballers who lost their Shield final on Sunday night. Details of Summer Camps will be available next week.

Local Lotto Jackpot

The last local lotto jackpot draw took place on Tuesday 18th May. The numbers drawn were 4,10,15 and 27. We had no jackpot winner, but three  shared the Match 3 prize of €150. Congratulations to Thomas O’Halloran, Denise Treacy and Tina Bryant who shared €150. The next jackpot draw will take place on Tuesday 2nd June when the jackpot could be worth €12,500.

First Communion

Congratulations to the 27 girls and boys who received their First Communion at a special Mass in St.Michael’s Church on Saturday morning last May 16th at 11am. Thank God the weather remained fine for what was a lovely ceremony. Our congratulations to the children, their parents, their teachers, to Fr. McGrath P.P. and all who helped to make the Church beautiful on this special day.

Defibrillator

Thank you to everyone who supported the recent cake sale in aid of obtaining a defibrillator for Mullinahone.  A total of €750 was raised through the sale of cakes and donations. The balance was kindly donated by Mullinahone Credit Union and Ronan Brett of Brett’s Hardware. The AED will be placed on the wall of Brett’s Hardware. Free training will be given shortly on the use of same. Please contact Breda on 087-7422614 to book a place.

Community Playschool

Parents and children are invited to attend an open day at the playschool on Saturday next May 23rd from 11am to 1pm to view the bright child-centred facilities and to meet the FETAC playschool qualified staff.

Semi-Final Beckons

As we go to press, the future path of our senior hurlers is uncertain. On Saturday evening last we were due to play Carrick Swan in our first round South Tipp clash, but a bereavement caused this game to be postponed. Our sympathy to the Hogan family in Carrick-on-Suir. The game has been re-arranged to be played on this Tuesday night in Monroe, so by the time you read this, the future will be much clearer. At the other side of the draw Killenaule beat Ballingarry 0-15 to 0-13 in Fethard on Sunday evening. If we win in Monroe, we will meet Killenaule in the first South Tipp semi-final.  Were we to lose, all would not be lost as we would then play Ballingarry in a losers first round tie. The winners of this game would go through to a second South Tipp sem-final against the losers of the first semi-final. Let us hope that our recent good form will continue and that as you read this that we are safely in the first semi-final.

Credit Union

In May 1978, Mullinahone Credit Union opened to the public.  For the last almost 40 years our Credit Union has operated most successfully on a voluntary basis giving sterling service to the people of the local area. However, in recent years pressure of government legislation has made it virtually impossible for any voluntary credit union such as ours to continue to operate in its present form. Discussions have taken place with Clonmel Credit Union with a view to us amalgamating with a full time credit union. This idea of amalgamation which was approved at our last AGM is now ready to take place and will continue to see credit union work in the village linked by computer to Clonmel and Fethard and providing new and improved services for all members. Details of these will be issued shortly.

Local Lotto Jackpot

The last local lotto jackpot draw took place on Monday 11th May 2015.  The numbers drawn were 3,21, 25 and 27. There were no jackpot winners, but we had four Match 3 winners. Congratulations to Jim Buggy, Amy Molyneaux, Martin Costello and Eddie + Stephen. Next draw will be on Monday 25thMay when the jackpot could be worth €12,250.

Cup Successes for Mullinahone FC

Last Saturday saw two Mullinahone Schoolboy Soccer teams looking to win their respective Cup Competitions. First up in Clonmel were the under 13’s sponsored by Crocanoir against St Kevins from Tipperary Town. In a tight match, a great team performance from goalkeeper to forwards and a strong bench saw a single goal for the Mullinahone team settle the match. This was the second trophy for this young team in two weeks after winning the league to complete the double and go through the season unbeaten. Credit must go to their coaches Emmy Maher & Kevin Ryan who have coached this young team over the past few seasons.

Next up were the under 15’s sponsored by Lonergans Gala who went into their match as underdogs against league champions Clonmel Celtic. A very tight first half saw both defences keep a clean sheet but in the second half a great strike saw Mullinahone take the lead. Celtic however  fought back to take a 2-1 lead with only ten minutes left. Again Mullinahone were behind and again had to prove what a team of fighters they are. Two quick goals and great defending in the last few minutes saw this team, that has been together for six years win their first trophy.

Great credit to Paul White who has managed them from the start and ably assisted this year by Eamonn Ryan. The surprises didn't end there. Junior club chairman John Bermingham arranged for both teams to get tickets for the upcoming Ireland v England international while Lonergans Gala sponsored food in Supermac’s ending a great season for Mullinahone Schoolboys soccer.

Three In A Row

Mullinahone travelled to New Inn on Sat. evening to take on Boherlahan in their third and final game in the league section of the county senior hurling championship. Mullinahone had already qualified for the last 16 in the county while Boherlahan were destined for the relegation playoffs. Mullinahone lined out without Donal Cody, Sean Curran and Kevin Bolger from the team that had started the previous game against Ballingarry. They were replaced by Diarmuid O’Halloran, Paul Kelly and Niall O’Brien.

Mullinahone struggled for a long time in this game, as though on top, their failure to score even one goal left them vulnerable to Boherlahan counter attacks. However, the defence stood firm especially in the second half and they ran out winners 0-19 to 1-10. A better display will be needed to overcome Swan on next Saturday evening in Monroe. The turnout of local supporters was quite small in New Inn. It is hoped that it will be a much bigger turnout of support in Monroe at 7pm on Saturday evening next.

Parish Newsletter

Sympathy is extended to Vincent Hornibrook, Kickham Place on the death of his mother, Mary Hornibrook, nee Healy formerly of Foyle, Ballingarry. Mary Hornibrook passed way in England. Anniversary Masses next weekend Saturday 16th May at 8pm Dinny Quirke of Gurteen. Sunday 17th May at 9.30am Mary and Paddy Scott, Graigue, Sunday 17th May at 11.30am Pake Luttrell, Knockulty. May devotions take place in St. Michael’s Church each Sunday evening during the month at 7pm while the rosary takes place at the Callan Road Grotto each weekday evening, Monday to Friday at 7.15pm. First Holy Communion 2015 will take place at a special Mass in St. Michael’s Church on this Saturday morning 16th May  at 11am. Please be punctual as it is unfair and unsettling on other children to be left waiting.

Community Draw (9th)

The winners in the last community draw were €150 Vicky Maher, Killaghy Street, €70 Monica Lawless, Kylotlea, €25 Paul Ryan, Ballinacloghy, €25 Pat and Noreen Fitzgerald, Fethard Street, €20 Joan Treacy, Poulacapple.

Local Lotto Jackpot

The last local lotto jackpot draw took place on Tuesday 5th May. The winning numbers drawn were 5,23,27 and 28. We had no jackpot winner, but two people shared the Match 3 prize of €150. Congrats to Mary Guiry and Nellie Cahill. The next draw will be on Monday next 18th May when the jackpot could be worth €12,100. Definitely, a prize worth winning.

Mount Carmel Draw (April)

The complete list of April winners can be read in last weekends Mullinahone Parish Newsletter.

Parish Clean-up

The Parish Clean-up Blitz organised by the Tidy Towns Committee moved up  gear during the last week. Parish workers were seen out on the approach roads leading into the village gathering up rubbish and litter from the roadsides.  Some well- known local blackspots were also cleaned up. The appearance of An Taisce litter bags along the roadsides in groups of 3/4 were the result of our clean-up. These bags were collected by the local authority workers and removed as was the pile of rubbish collected centrally in the GAA carpark. Our thanks to the community workers and also to any private individuals who lent a hand.

Now that the parish has been cleaned up, at least to some extent, it is up to the public to keep it that way and even improve it. We can do this by making sure that outside our own properties is kept free of rubbish and litter and that all those who toss away litter are noted and reported. After all, these careless individuals are not littering or tossing away rubbish outside their own properties.

Local Lotto Jackpot

The last local lotto jackpot draw took place on Monday 27th April.  The numbers drawn were 24,27,28 and 30.  We had no jackpot winner, but five shared the Match 3 prize of €150. Congrats to Evan and Baylea, Willie Walsh, Dara Scott, Bill Coady and Martin Brennan. The next draw will take place on Monday night next May 11th when the jackpot could be worth €11,950.  This is a prize certainly well worth winning.

Parish Newsletter

Sympathy is extended to Don Bolger, Jamestown on the recent death of his sister, Nuala Wilde in Wexford.  Anniversary Masses next weekend, Saturday 9th May at 8pm Patrick and Kathleen Power, Poulacapple and their son Henry Power. Sunday 10th May at 11.30am  Tom Lanigan, Fethard Street and Frank O’Brien, Kyleawilling. Parishioners are invited to May devotions each Sunday evening at 7pm in St. Michael’s Church during the month of May.  During the month, also, the Rosary will be prayed each week evening, Monday to Friday at the Callan Road Grotto at 7.15pm.  First Communion 2015 will take place at a special Mass in St.Michael’s Church on Saturday week 16th May at 11am.

Mass Rock Support

A progressive 25 Drive will take place in Nonie’s of Nine Mile House starting at 9pm on next Saturday night 9th May to help fund work being done at the Mass Rock on Carraigmoclear.

GAA Update Briefs

Well done to our U14 footballers who defeated Kilsheelan 2-08 to 3-04 in Mullinahone during the week. Two big games coming up for our senior hurlers. Saturday next at 7pm in New Inn, Mullinahone v Boherlahan in the county championship league section. Saturday 16th May at 7pm in Monroe, Mullinahone v Carrick Swan in the South championship. Your support would be appreciated.

Schoolboy Soccer

Our U13 schoolboys who have just won the Tipperary South U13 league travel to Clonmel on Saturday 9th May at 11am with a chance to complete the double by winning the Cup against St. Kevins. On the same day, the Mullinahone U15’s play Clonmel Celtic in the U15 Cup Final at 1pm. We wish both teams well and all support will be welcome for the teams. Mullinahone schoolboys soccer would also like to thank everyone that supported their recent table quiz. Without this support, it is unlikely that we would be in the position of celebrating recent successes and continuing to grow Schoolboys soccer in the Mullinahone area.
