A Brave Effort

The Munster Junior cup game between Cahir Park and Mullinahone resulted in a dramatic win 5-4 victory for Cahir Park following a penalty shoot- out. Mullinahone took a while to settle and conceded two goals within five minutes of the kick off. Both goals were scored by Willie Dunne. To their credit Mullinahone fought tooth and nail to get back in the game and a Wayne Lazzlett goal just before half time steadied the nerves.

Mullinahone came out for the second half determined to make a game of it and a brilliant volley from Kevin Walzer brought the game back to back to 2-2. Playing against first division opponents for the second week in a row the home team showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses. Urged on by their biggest crowd of the season it was end to end stuff as both teams tried for the winner.

The scoreline remained 2-2 after extra time and it took a penalty shoot out to decide the eventual winners. Before the game a minutes silence was respectfully observed by both teams as a tribute to former Mullinahone player Liam O’Dwyer who sadly passed away during the week. Liam was a formidable player in his day and a great supporter of all local teams .Despite his illness he was on the sideline for our last home game. May he rest in peace.

Community Council

The AGM of Mullinahone Community Council was held in the Knocknagow Centre on Tues. Sept.22nd. While attendance was open to all members of the community, the turnout was rather disappointing. A fuller account of the meeting will follow, but meanwhile, Rita Curran informs us that the new community draw is upon us again.

Cards will be distributed during the week to all the promoters. Please support our community draw. Cost is €20 per year for 12 draws i.e. one for each month. The money goes towards the insurance of our Community Centre and general upkeep. We hope to have the first draw in October, so your support would be greatly appreciated.

Parish Newsletter

The parish was rocked last week by the death of Liam O’Dwyer of Ballyvadlea. Whle Liam’s death at the age of 50 was not unexpected, it still came as a great shock to the local community. The turnout at Liam’s reposal, his removal to St. Michael’s Church, his funeral Mass and his burial was one of the largest seen locally in years.  Our deepest sympathy to his wife, Colette, and his three children, to his mother, Breda, his brothers and sisters and to the extended family. May he rest in peace.

Sympathy to Kathleen Gahan, now living in Camphill whose mother Peggy Gahan also passed way recently.
