Easter Ceremonies

Our Easter ceremonies in St. Michael’s Church were well attended during the week. Great credit is due to Fr. McGrath and to all those who arranged or helped with the ceremonies. There will be no morning Mass in St. Michaels this week, but Adoration will take place on Thursday from 11am to 9pm. All are welcome. .

Good Work

It is good to see the streets of the village being repaired after they were cut up during the installation of the new water mains which seem to be working well. Hopefully, now and in the future, our water supply will be free of breaks and be of good quality. The installation of this supply which replaces a system 50/60 years old is great progress. It comes as a result of almost 20 years of hard work at council level in seeking such improvements. It should be noted that the roadway and street improvements in Chapel/Kickham Street are an addition to the waterworks and not part of that scheme. This work will begin in the next few weeks with Carrick Street to follow at a later date. For further details contact Eddie O’Meara. .

Our senior hurlers did very well to overcome neighbours Ballingarry in their first game in the county championship on Sun. evening last It was a fixture that has always given us trouble over the years. The final score was Mullinahone 1-11 Ballingarry 3-04. Though we only won by a point we scored 12 times to our opponents 7 times but it was definitely better than losing by a point. We now look forward to the next round.

County Council

In reply to a query, the first Tipp SR County Council was elected in April 1899. In every subsequent election, up to 1928, a Mullinahone candidate was elected. From then, until 1999 no Mullinahone person from any party was elected and the parish paid the penalty over those 71 years without representation. In 1999, Eddie O’Meara, Ballydonnell was elected as an Independent Councillor. The coming election will be for a County Council to represent all of Tipperary. We’ll need a strong voice to represent us if we are not to lose our influence in a much bigger pond.
