Table Quiz

A table quiz will be held in T J Macs on Friday night of next week Mar.28th. The quiz is a fund raiser for the GAA Players Injury Fund. The club would hope that players, supporters and well -wishers would come together to support this cause. A table of 4 costs €20 (€5 per person) and an enjoyable night is guaranteed. The quiz will begin at 9.30pm.

GAA Newsletter

Definitely, Summer must be on the way. With the prospect of longer evenings, the GAA is shaking off its Winter coat. A sign of this is the re-appearance of the C.J. Kickhams newsletter which appeared last weekend full of GAA news. Well done to those who produced it. Hopefully, we’ll see many more newsletters before the summer is over.

Sponsored Walk

Our juvenile club is holding a sponsored walk/run on Sunday next March 23rd. The walk begins in the GAA field at 12.45. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the GAA hall after the walk/run.

Underage Football

Our U12’s have begun the season well with wins over Killenaule and Ballyporeen and a draw with St. Pats. We hope to have the U12 panel for you next week. The U14’s will be in action against Ballingarry in Mullinahone on Thursday March 27th at 6.45pm. Our U16’s have had a good win over Clerihan. They are down to play Carrick Swan in Mullinahone on Saturday March 29th at 12 noon.

Local Lotto

The local lotto jackpot draw took place on Monday March 10th. The numbers drawn were 3, 18, 19 and 27. There was no jackpot winner, but 5 shared the match 3 prize of €150. Congrats to John O’Grady, C.A.C., Ger C, Amie O’Brien and Darren, Alan and Jason. Next draw is on Monday March 24th when the jackpot could be worth €3,400.

Daffodil Day

A coffee morning will be held in the Knocknagow Community Centre on Friday March 28th from 10am until noon. All are welcome.

GAA History

Considerable progress has been made with our GAA history. However, the hunt is on for any pre 1970 medals and photos. Medals will be photographed and returned and old photos will be scanned and returned. Any GAA items could be of interest. Calling U6’s

Coaching starts next Saturday at 10.30am for our U6’s. Girls or boys and parents are welcome. An U6 is a child born after the 1-01-2008.

Condolences to the Crotty family on the death of Tomas Crotty in his 85th year. Tomas was a harness maker and a postman for many years. Anniversary Masses next week – Sat. March 22nd 8pm anniversary Patrick and Connie Condon, The Square and Sister Celestine Landy. Sunday March 23rd at 9.30am Anniversary Michael Brennan, Ballylanigan and Natalie Horan, Ballyduggan. Sunday March 23rd at 11.30am Anniversary Deirdre McGrath, Bawnavrona, Paddy and Stella McGrath, Ballycullen. May they all rest in peace. Congrats on their recent wedding to Mark Edmond Lawless and Orla Britton, Lismolin.

Club Membership

GAA membership is now due for renewal. A membership committee member will contact you shortly and you might consider joining us again. Committee Bill Tobin, Ann Pollard,, Dick Egan, Rita Curran and Edward O’Brien. Membership for 2014 as follows: Adult Players €50, Minors and Students €25, General Members €20. This can be paid to the membership committee. New members always welcome. Your support is very important to the club.

 

Quiz

A quiz to raise funds for the GAA Players Injury Fund wil be held in T J Macs on Fri.Mar.28th @ 9.30pm. Entry fee for a team of 4 will be E20.An enjoyable night is promised and all players are requested to field teams.

Under 21 Football

Our U21 footballers are out of the championship having gone down to Cahir on Sat.in their second game. One good thing to emerge from the game was the fine display of Eoin Fennelly who was back in action following a recent injury.

Ladies Football

Our Ladies U16 team was in action in Mullinahone on Sun. morning. The team was unable to field at full strength due to defections and as a result went down to Lattin –Cullen. It is hoped that the team will be stronger the next day and will produce a better result.

Parish Newsletter

Now that Lent is here, we will have Lenten devotions each Sunday evening at 7pm in St. Michael’s Church consisting of Stations of the Cross and Benediction. These devotions will continue for the duration of Lent. Condolences to the extended Crotty family, The Square on the death of Tom Crotty at the age of 84.

Tom had been unwell for quite some time. Aniversary masses next weekend. Sat. Mar. 15th 8pm.aniversary Chrissie and Geoffrey Croke Newlands, Sun. Mar.16th 9.30am anniversary Buddie Hawe Ballyduggan. Sun. March 16th at 11.30am anniversary Ann Lonergan, Killaghy. May they rest in peace. Sincere thanks to all those who used the weekly envelopes last weekend. Please continue to do so every week.

Weather

The early days of March seem to have brought a slight pick up in the local weather. In February, 153.2mm of rain fell on 25 of the 28 days. This was almost a record for February rainfall locally.

Mullinahone GAA Club Membership

Last year over 200 adults became members of our club. We thank you sincerely for your loyalty and support. That membership (2013) expires on the 31st March 2014. We appeal to you to join with us again in 2014 and hopefully some new members will also do so. Come on board, more details to follow. Mullinahone GPS Scheme - Final call

The deadline for the receipt of GPS consent forms is Friday March 7th. Forms are now available for signature at Mullinahone PO and local shops. Please note forms are not being collected, but may be delivered to the business premises as above, or to the committee members Don Bolger, Sean Reilly or Kevin Keating. Be sure to avail of this excellent and potentially life- saving service.

Road Resurfacing

Councillor Eddie O’Meara is pleased to announce that further to discussions between himself, Tidy Towns committee and South Tipperary County Council, the Council have agreed to provide €330,000 for the resurfacing and replacement of footpaths at Kickham Street. These works are separate from present restoration being carried out. Works at Mullinahone to commence at the end of March.

Schoolboy Soccer

Many thanks to everyone who supported the fundraising table quiz on Friday Feb. 21st in T.J. Macs. Our insurance fee of over €700 for 2013/2014 has now been covered. Our U14’s remain in third place in their league and will compete in the title playoffs during March. Our U12’s on Saturday defeatedCahir 2-1 in a top of the table challenge and remain in 2nd place with 6 matches remaining.

Under Age GAA

Sponsored Walk. All sponsorship cards have now been distributed to all juvenile players for the sponsored walk which takes place on Sunday March 23rd. All cards may be returned at training. All are welcome on the walk. Refreshments available in the GAA Hall afterwards.

Easter Camp. Our Easter GAA Juvenile camp will take place on Wed., Thur and Fri April 23rd to 25th from 10am to 1pm each day. Ages 6 to 13. €20 per child. Each child gets a sliotar and a football at the end of the camp. Names to chairman Victor Direen on 087-1992470 or Secretary Michelle Morrisey on 087-6925124.

The Kelloggs camp will take place in August with a full set of gear and a bag in the Tipp colours for all who take part.Training and Games Teams are now back in training. U8 Friday evenings at 6pm, U12 Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm, U14 Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm and Saturdays at 4pm, U16 Wednesdays at 7.30pm and at the weekend. U6 will be back in Mid March, U12 are down to play Killenaule in football in Mullinahone on Sunday March 9th at 11am, U16’s begin football championship against Clerihan in Clerihan on Saturday next March 8th at 12 noon. Monthly meeting. The March monthly meeting will take place on Thursday March 13th at 8.30pm. It would be nice to see more parents at these meetings.

Sincere sympathy to the McGrath family on the tragic death of Micheál. Micheáls brother, Pat is an U8 club mentor and his nephew,Shane is an U8 player.

Enrolment

St. Michael’s NS Mullinahone are now enrolling pupils who will start school in September 2014. Please call to the school for enrolment form. Office hours – call to Rosie Walzer from 9.30am to 1pm. After office hours call to Mairéad O’Halloran in the Infant classroom.

Juvenile Football and Hurling

U6’s will return in mid-March. Anyone interested in registering please contact Josephine Britton. U8’s are back in the hall each Friday from 6pm to 7pm. Football and hurling every second week. U10’s and U12’s will be back in training from Tuesday Feb. 18th from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and then each Wednesday and Saturday from 4pm to 5pm. Texts will go out.

U16’s are back already and will be the first tam in championship action in early March.

All team management make sure that all players are registered. Mentors please ensure that they are Garda vetted. Speak to Patricia Vaughan about her.

Sponsored walk.

A juvenile GAA sponsored walk will be confirmed on a Sunday in late March/early April. Monthly meeting of Juvenile club will take place as usual on the second Thursday of the month February 13th at 8.30pm. All are welcome.

Mullinahone school boy soccer club will hold a table quiz in TJ Macs on Friday 21st February at 9pm. A table of 4 will cost €20. Please come along and support our young soccer teams.

Mohober NS

3 teams from Mohober NS took part in the Credit Union quiz in Callan on Saturday 1st Feb. Well done to all who participated. Congratulations to our U11 team of Shane Burns, Ellen Geeves, Bonnie Hehir and Adam O’Connell who took 3rd place in the competition.

Ladies Football Time

U16 Ladies football re-commenced on Tuesday Feb. 4th at 7.30pm in the GAA hall. Everyone is welcome especially new players. Come along to get fit and meet new friends.

Altar Society

A group of ladies of the parish perform a wonderful service each week by providing and arranging flowers on the Altar and also cleaning the carpet. Two ladies form a team for 2 weeks. We would love to have more ladies involved. Please offer your services to keep our church beautiful.

Clothes collection

Bags of clothes can be left in to St.Michael’s NS before Wed. Feb. 12th in aid of the school and NCBI – charity for the blind.
