Two injured in small plane crash in Tipperary

A two-seater plane has crashed near Slievenamon in Co Tipperary

The plane crashed in a field beside a wooded area near Slievenamon around 11.30am.

Gardaí said the light aircraft came down at Ballyduggan, 2km from the village of Mullinahone.

It is understood there were two men, aged 46 and 48, on board and both were injured.

Fire services, gardaí, ambulance crews and the search and rescue helicopter from Waterford Regional Airport responded.

One of the men has serious injuries and was airlifted to Waterford Regional hospital.

The other man has minor leg injuries and was brought by ambulance to the same hospital.

There are reports that one of the two injured men rang from his iPhone after the plane crashed to alert emergency services.

The plane had taken off from Kilkenny Airfield this morning.
