Kilmacud 7s

E-mail Print PDF

Senior Hurling

Our senior hurlers who were beaten in the South Tipp semifinal and then failed to reach the last 16 in the county championship travelled to Dublin on take part in the Kilmacud 7s. Their group games were played in Bray. Here they were opposed by two replacement Dublin teams as Erins Own of Cork and Ballyhaunis of Mayo were unable to take part. Mullinahone started off with two victories as did Craughwell of Galway the other team in the group. In their last group game Mullinahone had a good win over Craughwell.

They were now in the quarter finals. Here they were pitted against Thurles Sarsfields one of the tournament favourites. Playing probably their best hurling of the year our lads surprised the Sarsfields and won 4-09 to 4-08. However, this great effort told in the semifinal when Mullinahone lost to Dublin side Cuala Casements who themselves then lost the final to Ballyboden.

The ten who represented Mullinahone were Donal Cody, Niall Curran, Alan Curran, Sean Curran, Kevin Bolger, Luke Mullally, Kevin Walzer, Alan Walsh, Edwin O’Meara and Eoin Kelly. Hopefully, the better form shown by the 7s squad will transfer to our U21 hurlers who are the only one of our teams still involved in the championship.

August concluded with 33.4mm of rain falling on 14 days. In all in the four months since May 1st 194.1mm of rain have fallen on 61 days. If this sort of rainfall were to continue for the rest of 2013 about 600mm of rain only would be the years total rainfall. I just can’t see that happening.

Well Done

Well done to Lorraine O’Shea who played on Saturday last in Tipp’s great win over Fermanagh in the All-Ireland Ladies Football semi-final in Semple Stadium. In the last minute of the game Tipp scored a goal and a point to win by a point. They will now play Cavan in the All-Ireland final. Lorraine plays her club football with Mullinahone ladies. Her mother, Mary O’Shea is a selector on the Tipp team. Congrats to both Lorraine and Mary.

Local Lotto

The Local Lotto Jackpot on September 2nd was not won. The numbers drawn were 11,16,21 and 23. There were 3 match 3 winners. Congratulations to Richie O’Meara, SASGA and D. Murphy who shared €150. Next draw will be on Monday September 16th when the jackpot could be worth €9,550. If you want to win, do be in.

Bus to Holycross

A bus leaves Mullinahone at 6pm each evening for the Holycross Novena. Contact John on 087-9919775 for more details.

Tale of Woe

Our minor hurlers were in action again during last week. Unfortunately, it was another heavy defeat this time from Swan. This was expected from early in the year when the lads were placed in the “A” grade. The loss of 3/4 18 year olds from the team gave them no chance. Well done to the lads who soldiered on but they deserved more support.

Community Council Draw

The new Community Council draw for 2013/14 will take place in September. This draw is the only source of income for the Community Council and covers all expenses such as insurance, maintenance etc. The cost in only €20 for the year and there is a draw every month. It is essential for the community that the Council stays viable so your support is wanted and greatly appreciated. Please return all cards as soon as possible so that the draw can start. If you want to join please see a promoter quickly.

"And I wouldn't much care for Sierra Leone, If I hadn't seen Killenaule
And the man that was never in Mullinahone,
Shouldn't say he had travelled at all."
