Eoin Tips Us Off

Two local lads, Eoin O’Dwyer and Alex Maher had the trip of a lifetime on Thursday night last when they traveled to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to be mascots at the Ireland via Germany soccer game. Both lads are playing members of the Mullinahone schoolboys soccer team. Their trip was organised by John Bermingham, Chairman of the reformed Mullinahone AFC who deserves great credit.

Alex is son of Emby and Vicky Maher of Killaghy Street and Eoin is son of the late Liam, and Colette O’Dwyer of Ballyvadlea. Perhaps, Eoin knew something great was about to unfold as he dropped a beautiful wink to the TV audience as the camera focussed on him before the game. Both boys also, were greeted by the President of Ireland, Michael D. O’Higgins.

Never was the lead up to any soccer game watched as keenly in Mullinahone as was Thursday nights game, as the local people were well aware that two local lads might be appearing. It made everyone’s night when Tippman Shane Long scored the winning goal against the world champions.

September Rainfall

Our Indian summer seems to be hanging on. September which began and ended with two fine spells had only 40 mm of rainfall on nine days mostly in the middle of the month. With three quarters of the year now gone, 546 mm of rain has fallen on 138 days. With a quarter of the year left, it looks as if 2015 will hardly be the wettest year on record.

Clothes for Calcutta Collection

A clothes collection for Calcutta will be taken up between 12 noon and 2pm on Thursday next 15th October in the Church car park.

Tidy Towns

The progress being made in laying new footpaths down along Kickham Street is being well monitored by locals. When completed, the job will certainly improve the look of the village. In spite of the fall -off in interest in our tidy towns earlier this year, it should be noted that the results for Mullinahone announced recently showed a slight improvement in marks for our village for the third year in a row for 2015.

Local Lotto

The last local lotto draw took place on Monday 5th October. The numbers drawn were 2,12,18 and 22. There was no jackpot winner, but there were 3 Match 3 winners. Congratulations to Aidan Morrissey, Brendan O’Sullivan and Nigel Brett who shared the Match 3 prize of €150. Next draw will be on Monday 19th October when the jackpot could be worth €12,700.

Community Draw

The new community draw is upon us once more. Cards are being distributed at present to all promoters. Please support our community draw for €20 per year for 12 draws / one every month. The money goes towards the insurance of the hall and it’s general upkeep. We hope to have the first draw in October. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Thanking all from Rita Curran.

Mullinahone Juvenile GAA Club

Once again it’s the time of the year when C.J. Kickhams Juvenile GAA Club start planning for their Annual GAA calendar. As always, this would not be possible only for the support of individuals and business within the parish and surrounding areas. This year, any individual, family or business that wishes to sponsor an ad for our juvenile calendar can do so at a cost of €50.

Anybody who wishes to sponsor an ad on the calendar can contact secretary, Victor Direen 083-4321790, Chairperson Sean O’Meara 087-9841985 or Treasurer Sean Reilly 086-3485696. If you wish to E-Mail Victor your ad for the calendar, you can do so to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Once again on behalf of our juvenile committee, we thank you all for your continued support as we strive for the best of facilities for our young players.

GAA News

By the time these notes appear, we will be aware of our fate in the much on again/off again County Intermediate football semi-final against Upperchurch. Clonmel Óg whom we defeated in the South Final have since already qualified for the County Final when they defeated Holycross in the other semi-final.

Our Junior B hurlers have also been suffering from the off again/on again fixtures since they beat Swan in the semi-final to qualify to meet St. Marys in the final. It looks like this game will take place in Carrick-on-Suir, but our best advice to members is to keep your ears open re. fixtures and hope that Joe Tobin, who has been doing a superb job getting out accurate texts messages re. fixtures/ results will get to you on time. This text service for members has been very successful this year.
